Children’s Day Event (2026)

Enjoy traditional games and experiences from the past inspired by Children’s Day!

Organizers: Tokyo Metropolitan Government and Edo-Tokyo Open Air Architectural Museum (Tokyo Metropolitan Foundation for History and Culture)

  • Shitamachi District Shopping Errand Game

    Time: 10:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (Registration open until 3:30 p.m.)
    Location: Shitamachi-naka Street, etc.

    Search for items listed on your memo and go shopping using the “Tatemono Yen.” Collect all the stickers to get a souvenir prize!
    Reception: Open space next to “Kawano Shoten”Oil-paper Umbrella Wholesale Store
    *Limited to 700 participants each day (first-come, first-served basis)

  • Carp Streamers in the Sky - Bring Yours Along!

    Location: Second House of the Nishikawa Family

    Download the craft sheet from the Edo-Tokyo Open Air Architectural Museum website. Make your own carp streamer and bring it with you. Let’s decorate the museum with carp streamers brought by everybody!

  • Paper Craft of Buildings

    Time: 10:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (Registration open until 3:30 p.m.)
    Location: Farmhouse of the Yoshino Family

    Create paper crafts of the Edo-Tokyo Open Air Architectural Museum’s reconstructed buildings!
    *Limited to 400 participants each day (first-come, first-served basis)

  • Craft Workshop: Make an Animal Brooch

    Time: 10:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (Registration open until 3:30 p.m.)
    Location: Farmhouse of the Tenmyo Family

    Use timber from Tokyo’s Tama area to make a brooch!
    *Limited to 300 participants each day (first-come, first-served basis)

  • A Children’s Zoo in the Backyard of a Private Home

    Held only on May 4 (Mon., national holiday) *Cancelled in the event of rain

    10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. (Break time for animals from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.)
    Location: Farmhouse of the Tsunashima Family backyard

    Interact with rabbits, chabo (a Japanese chicken breed), chicks, and other animals in the backyard of a private home!

  • Carpenter Experience

    Held only on May 5 (Tue., national holiday)
    *Limited to elementary school students (accompanied by a parent/guardian)

    Time:
    (1) 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
    (2) 11:40 a.m. to 12:40 p.m.
    (3) 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.
    (4) 2:10 p.m. to 3:10 p.m.
    (5) 3:20 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
    *Tickets distributed 30 minutes before each session (first-come, first-served basis)
    *20 participants per session (5 participants for session (5) only)
    Location: East Square

    Get a taste of planing, sawing, nailing, marking, and other carpentry techniques!

  • Shobu-yu (Sweet Flag Bath) [Exhibition]

    Time: 10:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
    Location: Public Bathhouse Kodakara-yu

    The Shobu-yu will be held in the men’s bath at Kodakara-yu.
    *No bathing allowed.

  • Challenge yourself with games of the past!

    Hula hoops / Stilts / Spinning top / Menko / Kendama

    Time: 10:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
    Location: Hula hoops: Front garden of Farmhouse of the Yoshino Family
    Stilts: Empty lot next to Mantoku Inn
    Spinning top / Menko / Kendama: East Square

  • Carp Streamers Everywhere!

    Exhibition period: April 21 (Tue.) to May 6 (Wed., national holiday)
    Location: East Square, next to the Visitor Center
